Compare the2024 Toyota GR CorollaVS 2023 Kia Stinger

The GR Corolla has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Stinger doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the GR Corolla. But it costs extra on the Stinger.

Both the GR Corolla and the Stinger have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available rear parking sensors.

The GR Corolla’s 5 year corrosion warranty has no mileage limitations, but the corrosion warranty on the Stinger runs out after 100,000 miles.

Toyota pays for scheduled maintenance on the GR Corolla for 2 years and 25000 miles. Toyota will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Kia doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Stinger.

There are over 59 percent more Toyota dealers than there are Kia dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the GR Corolla’s warranty.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2023 Auto Issue reports that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Kia vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Toyota first in overall reliability. Kia is ranked 9th.

On the EPA test cycle the GR Corolla gets better mileage than the Stinger:

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Toyota GR Corolla higher (5 out of 10) than the Kia Stinger (3). This means the GR Corolla produces up to 16.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Stinger every 15,000 miles.

The GR Corolla offers a manual transmission for better acceleration, control and sportiness. The Stinger doesn’t offer a manual transmission.

For better stopping power the GR Corolla’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Stinger:

The GR Corolla’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the Stinger GT-Line are solid, not vented.

The GR Corolla stops much shorter than the Stinger:

For better traction, the GR Corolla has larger tires than the Stinger (235/40R18 vs. 225/45R18). The GR Corolla’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Stinger (235/40R18 vs. 225/40R19).

The GR Corolla’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Stinger GT-Line’s standard 45 series tires.

The GR Corolla Circuit Edition handles at .96 G’s, while the Stinger pulls only .85 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The GR Corolla Circuit Edition executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.9 seconds quicker than the Stinger (24.9 seconds @ .74 average G’s vs. 26.8 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the GR Corolla’s turning circle is .6 feet tighter than the Stinger’s (36.1 feet vs. 36.7 feet). The GR Corolla’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the Stinger AWD’s (36.1 feet vs. 38.4 feet).

The Toyota GR Corolla may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 550 to 900 pounds less than the Kia Stinger.

The GR Corolla is 1 foot, 4.6 inches shorter than the Stinger, making the GR Corolla easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

As tested by Car and Driver while under full throttle, the interior of the GR Corolla Circuit Edition is quieter than the Stinger GT2 (80 vs. 84 dB).

The GR Corolla has .1 inches more front headroom and .6 inches more rear headroom than the Stinger.

The GR Corolla’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Stinger does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The GR Corolla’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Stinger’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

If the windows are left open on the GR Corolla the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. (This window function must be activated by your Toyota service department.) The driver of the Stinger can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the GR Corolla has a standard rear wiper. The Stinger doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The GR Corolla was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2023. The Stinger has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.
